General Purpose
Student Accessibility Services (SAS) facilitates equitable access to the learning environment for students with disabilities, in alignment with the University’s duty to accommodate under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
 
Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Accessibility Assistant plays a key operational role within a fast-paced, student-centered service environment. This position is well-suited to individuals currently working in administrative coordination, student services, or accessibility-focused roles who are seeking to deepen their impact, take on greater responsibility, and contribute to service delivery improvements.
Accessibility Assistants are trusted to independently manage a high volume of student-facing inquiries, navigate complex and time-sensitive accommodation logistics, and collaborate across campus to ensure effective implementation of approved accommodations.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support & Service Delivery
  • Provide guidance on SAS processes such as exam booking, note-taking services, bursary applications, and service animal supports
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day accommodation implementation issues, including time-sensitive concerns related to quizzes, tests, and exams
  • Support students in navigating campus resources and making appropriate referrals (e.g., Academic Advising, Library services)
  • Provide responsive, empathetic service to students who may be experiencing stress, frustration, or barriers 
 
Daily Drop-In Coordination
  • Lead the Daily Drop-In service, ensuring timely and effective support for students
  • Address urgent requests such as late exam bookings and alternate test scheduling
  • Liaise with instructors and campus partners to coordinate accommodations in real time 
 
Operational Coordination
  • Coordinate the Note-Taking Office, including scheduling and supervision of part-time student staff
  • Coordinate the SAS Peer Helper Program, including development and promotion of programming and supervision of peer helpers
  • Work with the Intake Team and Advising teams to facilitate accommodation processes for service animals, mobility aids and equipment borrowing, ASL interpreting, accessible furniture in the classroom, etc.  
  • Support internal SAS processes by organizing information, maintaining documentation, and contributing to workflow improvements
  • Track and manage large volumes of information across multiple systems with a high degree of accuracy

Requirements
Required:
  • Community college diploma and at least one year of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Experience in a high-volume, service-oriented environment with competing priorities
  • Strong understanding of disability, accessibility, and equity, diversity, and inclusion principles
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex and time-sensitive requests
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to support individuals in distress while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Strong technical skills and ability to learn and navigate multiple systems for tracking and coordination
 
Assets:
  • Experience in post-secondary education, student services, or accessibility settings. Direct experience in a disability service office is preferred.
  • Experience supervising or coordinating student staff
  • Familiarity with accommodation processes or exam coordination
 
  • This position is fully in-person (5 days a week) and based on campus, requiring regular on-site presence to effectively support students and collaborate with campus partners
  • This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including regular evening and weekend work, particularly during peak academic periods
  • Work is performed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
