General Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications and Knowledge Mobilization, the Communications Officer supports communications and marketing activities for the Office of Research, Agri-Food Partnership, with a primary focus on the delivery of communications assets that amplify the impact of the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance (the Alliance). The Alliance is a partnership between the Government of Ontario and the University of Guelph.
This position is designed to provide additional capacity to support the delivery of high‑quality Alliance communications. Working within established communications strategies and priorities, the incumbent is responsible for the delivery of priority communications products, translating Alliance outcomes, impacts, and value into clear, compelling content for key audiences.
The Communications Officer works closely with the Senior Manager, Communications and Knowledge Mobilization and collaborates with Communications and Marketing Manager colleagues to support implementation of priority initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Leading the delivery of high‑impact communications assets, including impact stories, digital content, campaign materials, reports, presentations, and related products aligned with Alliance priorities
- Providing independent delivery of priority communications products, managing projects from concept through to completion with minimal direction
- Translating research, program, and partnership activities into accessible, audience‑appropriate communications
- Supporting implementation of communications initiatives already underway, with strong attention to quality, accuracy, and timeliness
- Coordinating content and messaging, as required, with internal interest holders (including faculty, researchers, laboratories, research centres, and college‑based communications teams) to ensure consistency and clarity
- Contributing to the evaluation and continuous improvement of communications products and approaches
Requirements
The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree (preferably in Journalism, English, Marketing, Multimedia Arts, or Public Relations) and two years of relevant communications and marketing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience delivering high‑profile communications assets in collaborative environments
- Strong ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multi‑role communications team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines effectively
- Experience using digital and social media platforms to amplify reach and awareness
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse interest holders and subject‑matter experts
