General Purpose

The College of Engineering is seeking a Communications and Social Media Specialist. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, development, execution, coordination, and evaluation of communications and digital engagement activities for the College.

 

The role supports undergraduate and graduate recruitment, research visibility, advancement activities, and stakeholder engagement. The incumbent translates technical and academic information into accessible communications for internal and external audiences, in accordance with University policies, brand standards, and accessibility requirements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform duties including, but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement communications and social media strategies aligned with College and University priorities
  • Identify target audiences and develop appropriate messaging and content plans
  • Create, edit, and publish content across digital platforms, including websites and social media channels
  • Produce written and multimedia materials, including feature stories, announcements, and promotional content
  • Maintain and update the College website, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards and best practices
  • Monitor and analyze digital engagement metrics and prepare reports for leadership
  • Support communications campaigns related to recruitment, research, advancement, and events
  • Provide guidance to faculty, staff, and student contributors on communications practices, brand standards, and accessibility requirements
  • Coordinate with central University units and external service providers as required
  • Monitor digital platforms and support the management of public inquiries and reputational considerations

 

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field
  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and content development
  • Experience with social media platforms, digital communications tools, and content management systems
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical or academic information to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting related to communications activities
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (AODA) and institutional communications practices is required
