General Purpose 

The Digital Engagement Specialist supports the coordination, delivery and continuous improvement of virtual engagement, digital tools and online recruitment initiatives that advance the University of Guelph’s domestic and international student recruitment goals. 

 

The incumbent coordinates a cohesive virtual engagement program across recruitment teams, colleges and campus partners. This includes identifying programming needs, coordinating contributors and resources and overseeing the operational and technical requirements for webinars and other virtual initiatives. 

 

Working collaboratively with recruitment, technical and communications colleagues, the role supports the implementation and ongoing use of digital engagement tools. The incumbent also helps maintain and strengthen the University’s presence across recruitment platforms and websites, ensuring digital information remains accurate, accessible and responsive to recruitment priorities. 

 

Using performance data, audience insights, competitive research and emerging digital trends, the incumbent identifies opportunities to improve programming, platforms and processes. The ideal candidate is a highly organized and collaborative professional who combines strong project coordination skills with technical confidence, sound judgment and a commitment to continuous improvement. 

 

Occasional evening and occasional weekend work is required to support webinars, recruitment events and audiences across different time zones.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Plan and coordinate virtual engagement programming that responds to recruitment priorities and the information needs of prospective students and other key audiences. 
  • Manage schedules, timelines, contributors, content requirements and technical logistics and support the effective delivery of webinars and other virtual initiatives. 
  • Review participation, engagement and feedback to identify opportunities to strengthen future programming. 
  • Support the implementation and adoption of digital engagement tools by coordinating requirements, workflows, testing, training and ongoing functional support. 
  • Review and enhance the University’s presence across recruitment platforms, coordinating updates, identifying opportunities and bringing forward recommendations. 
  • Monitor emerging digital trends and audience conversations to inform recruitment programming, content and engagement approaches. 
  • Maintain and update recruitment and admission website content and contribute to improvements in digital information and user journeys. 
  • Support recruitment events, collaborative initiatives and other time-sensitive departmental priorities as required. 

 

Requirements 

The University recognizes that no one individual will have the following skills and experience in equal measure, but the qualifications below will be used to assess candidates: 

 

  • Two-year diploma in marketing, communications, event management, digital media, business administration or a related field. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience coordinating webinars, virtual events, digital engagement initiatives or complex communications projects. 
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects involving multiple stakeholders, timelines and dependencies. 
  • Experience using digital platforms to support audience-facing initiatives. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear materials and adapt information for different audiences. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to establish priorities, anticipate requirements and follow projects through to completion. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate contributors, communicate expectations and build productive relationships without direct supervisory authority. 
  • Sound judgment, technical confidence and the ability to learn new digital platforms, systems and processes. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience coordinating webinars or virtual events in a recruitment, education or public-sector environment. 
  • Experience with Zoom Events or comparable webinar and virtual event platforms. 
  • Experience using WhatsApp in a business or organizational context to support communications and audience engagement. 
  • Experience with Drupal or another content management system and supporting website content updates. 
  • Experience supporting international recruitment or engagement with international audiences.  
  • Experience reviewing digital platforms, conducting competitive research or interpreting participation and engagement data.  
  • Knowledge of the University of Guelph’s programs, services and recruitment landscape.
