General Purpose 

The Department of Athletics is committed to providing opportunities for wellness and community engagement through programs and services that support the pursuit of excellence in high performance sport, community sporting events as well as fitness, intramural and recreational activities.

 

Reporting to the Marketing and Creative Officer, Graphics Assistant will help to support promotional and digital communications work across print, social media, web, and digital signage. The position plays a key role in enhancing the visibility and engagement of the University’s varsity athletics, recreation programs, and special events.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and edit graphic assets for print, digital, social media, and web platforms.
  • Assist with social media posting and content management across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and X.
  • Support website updates and maintenance for departmental websites.
  • Help create and manage video content for digital signs using Canva animated graphics.
  • Organize and maintain photo archives, albums, and digital image storage using Google Photos.
  • Post completed graphics to approved platforms and update event information on GryphLife as needed.
  • Work with provided templates and collaborate with staff to proof and finalize materials.

 

This work will help promote varsity teams, drive ticket sales, fundraising events, and increase student participation in fitness and recreation programming. The ideal candidate is proficient in design and editing software and very familiar with social media platforms and activity and trends a creative storyteller with a passion for sports, digital media, and student engagement.

 

Requirements

  • 2 year Diploma or degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 18 to 27 months of experience 
  • Current University of Guelph students in Marketing Management or a related program are encouraged to apply.
  • Relevant experience creating graphics, managing digital content, or supporting social media campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with templates, brand standards, and multiple digital platforms.
  • Strong design sense and attention to detail.
  • Experience with graphic design and content creation tools such as Canva and similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and an understanding of effective digital engagement.
  • Comfort updating website content and working with online event or content management tools.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing files, images, and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks while seeking guidance on new templates, captions, and web updates.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple campus partners.

Employee Type: Temporary  
Hourly rate: $28.73 - $32.10 per hour
