General Purpose

This position is located within the Analytics Unit of the Centre for Biodiversity Genomics (CBG). The Analytics Unit oversees data validation, data quality assurance, research analytics and specimen digitization of all CBG projects. The team aids CBG researchers, students, external collaborators with respect to digitization (imaging, weighing, etc.), data availability, statistical analysis, GIS mapping, ecological data, etc. The central goal of their work is to help generate high-quality publication-ready data, and to assist with their interpretation.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

This position will be associated with imaging services provided by the Unit. Tasks mainly encompass the operation of digital SLR and conventional microscope-camera systems as well as Keyence VHX-7000 Digital Microscopes with fully integrated heads and automatic stages to permit high resolution (4K) microphotography of individual specimens.

 

Requirements

Due to the high level of data accuracy required for our projects, the individual should have strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access (or other databases) and Photo editing software would be considered an asset. This position would be ideally suited to candidates interested in pursuing a career in biodiversity and/or entomology and/or laboratory technician.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum one-year post-secondary required
  • Must be fluent in using Excel spreadsheets
  • Must be able to work well both independently and in a team setting
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of organizational skill and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a high-throughput and dynamic environment
  • Comfortable with repetitive tasks
  • Comfortable working flexible hours
