General Purpose
The School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph is seeking an Instructional Lab Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of the School's instructional laboratories and teaching-support operations. Reporting to the Director of the School of Computer Science, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring effective, innovative, and well-supported learning environments for students, faculty members, sessional instructors, and teaching assistants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the delivery of instructional laboratories and related teaching-support activities across Computer Science courses.
- Work closely with faculty members, instructors, teaching assistants, and technical staff to support course-specific lab and assessment requirements.
- Ensure instructional lab readiness, support lab-based teaching and assessments, and coordinate accommodation-related exam support.
- Supervise and mentor instructional support staff incluuding the instructional assistant, teaching assistants, and co-op students involved in instructional operations.
- Develop and maintain software tools, assessment resources, test banks, lab exercises, grading supports, and instructional workflows.
- Use modern software development approaches, including AI-enabled methods, to enhance instructional processes and services.
- Create and maintain documentation, procedures, training resources, and support materials.
- Lead process improvement initiatives related to instructional delivery, academic record management, and student support.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline combined with 5 years of relevant experience in instructional support, educational technology and related areas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing tools, workflows, systems, or resources that improve operational effectiveness.
- Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring staff, students, teaching assistants, or project teams.
- Strong organizational, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build productive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and technical partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a university, college, or instructional computing environment.
- Experience developing instructional tools, assessment systems, grading supports, or academic administration workflows.
- Familiarity with issue-tracking systems, project coordination, process improvement, and documentation practices.
- Knowledge of accessibility, academic integrity, privacy, and records-management considerations in higher education.
- Experience collaborating with central IT groups and technical support teams to support teaching and learning environments.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
